Last night myself and Hannah spent a very enjoyable and productive night at the Bingo, at the Wanderers in Milton. On a personal level it was particularly enjoyable as it was the first time in a long while that I have been referred to as “the talent”. On a financial level it was also successful because Hannah won the last game of the evening and £15 whole pounds as reward for her efforts.
It was great to see so many people in Milton coming together and having spoken to the ladies who were present there appears to be no shortage of clubs and groups in Milton for adults to take part in. What was consistently mentioned was a lack of facilities and activites for young people. People are also very aware that there isn’t a social space in Milton such as a pub or cafe where folk of all ages can meet their chums for a drink and a blether.
Most of the people we spoke to do love milton and mainly because of the people and the strong sense of community and togetherness that exists. Negative comments are focused on the anti-social activites of some of the young people in the area but there is also a tacit understanding the these problems are best solved by providing services, activities, supervision and engagement with those young people rather than seeking to demonise them.
We had a great night at the bingo and I intend to go back. Please give your comments on any of the points raised in this blog and also kepp an eye out for more blogs on our consultation.
