background
Love Milton was born in 2008 when a number of local people came together in a bid to make Milton a better place for all to live. Aware of the number of social problems affecting some members of the community and the way Milton is often perceived by people outwith the district, we decided that it was time to take matters into our own hands if a positive difference was to be made in the area.
Subsequently, Love Milton registered as a company in 2009, and was awarded charity status the following year. Since our company has been in existence, we have received planning permission from the council and funding from the Scottish Government's Climate Challenge Fund to erect a new community building built by and for the residents of Milton, using their own skills and reclaimed material. This will require a huge level of commitment from local people if we are to raise the money that we still need to complete the building ourselves, but we believe it will be worth it, as this building will be the hub of the community, bringing friends and neighbours closer together.
Our group has also received money to employ a worker to draw up a Routemap Towards a Sustainable Future for the area, a project which has been investigating the ways in which Milton can become self-sufficient in the short, medium and long term. We have been making this happen by over seeing a number of local pilot projects that have allowed real changes to be made, which provides a strong argument for the necessity of more investment.
